A day in the life a residential care home – What to expect at Ash Lodge

We’d like to share more of what life is like for a person living in Ash Lodge residential care home, but first of all, here is some important information.

We offer general nursing, respite care and palliative care for those that need more support than they can receive at home. While your loved ones are with us, they will feel like they have joined our extended family, because this is a family run residential care home and we share our love with everyone! We are passionate about providing exceptional nursing care for our residents 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and we’ve been doing it for over 30 years…

How the day begins at Ash Lodge Residential Care Home

Breakfast! If there’s a dietary requirement we haven’t come across we’d love to hear about it… All our meals are tailored not only to medical needs, but to personal tastes as well, so if your loved one is a diabetic pescatarian who doesn’t like avocadoes – no problem! There isn’t a need we haven’t catered to before and our chef thoroughly enjoys pleasing his diners with his creative dishes.

After breakfast, many residents request a visit to the House of Tranquility, our lovely garden room surrounded by stimulating plants bursting with colour and scents to awaken the mind and spirit. Out here, residents can sew seeds, pot up, tidy up, or just sit back in the peaceful atmosphere enjoying the many benefits of being in this bucolic space. It also makes for a wonderful place to meet family and friends.

Mornings at Ash Lodge are often a good time to take part in therapies such as listening and moving to music and playing physical games, simple cookery, colouring, painting and crafting. And of course, we always theme our craft mornings to upcoming events like Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Comic Relief, Easter, VE Day and Christmas.

What’s for lunch?

Hot or cold, it’s everyone’s choice, but we always offer both. Fridays are a favourite for many with traditional fish and chips and mushy peas, and even a glass of lager or wine if they fancy it.

Then after we’ve cleared away, perhaps we’ll have a pamper session with our hairdresser, chiropodist or manicurist, or maybe we’ll play a game of chess or bingo, watch a favourite TV programme or simply have a nap!

This is also a good time for our special events that take place, when we may have an open day, a birthday party, fete, family day or religious service.

Everyone’s individuality is respected at Ash Lodge, so whatever your religion, culture or preferences may be, you retain the right to make your own choices.

Supper follows the same approach as lunch, with residents making their choices and enjoying a hearty meal before beginning to wind down in the evening.

Nursing care and therapy

We strive to provide the maximum level of health and well-being with creativity and heart for everyone in our residential care home. Nursing and therapeutic care is managed for the individual needs of each resident throughout the day and night.

Part of our therapeutic approach to care is that everyone living with us has a right to participate in the decision making process regarding their lifestyle, so if they don’t fancy bingo and would rather do a puzzle or they’d prefer a game of poker to chess – that’s fine by us as long as we don’t get hustled!

Kind words from our families

We’d like to share some of the lovely things our residents’ families have said online.
