Ash Lodge Care Home recognises that gardening in palliative care is an increasingly recognised therapeutic approach. By renovating our gardens, we have seen and experienced tremendous positive changes within our residents.
The renovations that have taken place has offered numerous physical, emotional, psychological, Social and spiritual benefits to our residents facing life-limiting illnesses.
Our residents have taken part in the Painting, planting and watering of the gardens which has improved their motor skills considerably especially for people living with Multiple sclerosis (MS). The different scents, colours and textures also provide our residents with sensory stimulation which has a wide range of benefits for people living with life limiting illnesses.
The calming nature of gardening has helped to reduce stress and anxiety while promoting a sense of tranquillity and calmness which enhances mood and overall well-being.
By watching plants grow and thrive gives our residents a sense of accomplishment and purpose. Evidence also suggests that gardening can serve as a positive distraction from pain and discomfort.
The garden renovations have also helped to foster social connections with family, friends and our staff. It has also given us an opportunity to invite local communities along to bask in our mission to improve our resident’s quality of life.
We at Ash Lodge acknowledge that achieving a sense of community for our residents is paramount for their well being and sense of self.
The generous donations from residents, staff, family members, friends and the outside communities have made a difference in ways that words cannot fully capture. We at Ash lodge are truly grateful for everyone’s hard work and determination to enable us to create a beautiful haven for our residents.
