Our Person-Centred Approach to Care
At Ash Lodge Nursing Home, we view residents as whole people with complex desires and needs, not just a file of medical notes and a list of medications. This is the basis of person-centred care.
‘Staff are warm and friendly and do everything they can to meet not only the patients’ needs but all their visitors too.’

The Six Principles of a Person-Centred Approach to Care
The NHS defines person-centred care as ‘about focusing care on the needs of the individual. Ensuring that people’s preferences, needs and values guide clinical decisions and providing care that is respectful of and responsive to them.’ NHS – Person-centred care.
To fulfil this approach, we are accountable to six guiding principles as set out by the NHS.
- Care and support is person-centred: personalised, coordinated, and empowering
- Services are created in partnership with citizens and communities
- Focus is on equality and narrowing inequalities
- Carers are identified, supported and involved
- Voluntary, community and social enterprise (VSCE) and housing sectors are involved as key partners and enablers
- Volunteering and social action are recognised as key enablers.
Clinical Excellence
We specialise in General Nursing, EMI Nursing and Palliative Care for people over the age of 65. We have a strong focus on the needs of those with complex needs such as physical and sensory impairment, mental health conditions and advanced dementia.
In addition, our Enhanced Assessment beds are available for those that have been discharged from hospital but are not yet fit enough to return home. This is a particularly fraught time as the future can seem uncertain, but we help you regain control through clinical assessment and planning all within a homely setting.
Person-Centred Approach
Your individuality is what makes you special, so that’s why we involve each resident in their own Care Plan as much as possible. A tailored approach to care is proven to be the most successful, not just for nursing needs, but for personality, spirituality and cultural needs too.
This approach prioritises dignity, respect and the importance of choice on what matters most to your loved one, you and your family.
How We Care
We strive to meet clinical, physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs in a non-discriminatory environment, encouraging people to be open and honest about their lifestyle choices.
